Time to give something back
All anyone needs are 1,000 true fans in order to be able to make a living as an author. As The Technium blog post points out, this is not a huge number, it is possible to count to 1,000, and if I start with one true fan today then all I need is to add a true fan a day and I’ll have my 1,000 in less than 3 years.
But connecting with readers isn’t a numbers game. In fact being an author (hoping soon to be published) isn’t a game of any sort for me. Its a passion. My fingers paused over the keyboard on the choice of that last word. Passion means something compelling and unequivocal, something that has a power of its own, driving me forward. So its the write word to describe how I feel about connecting with readers.
For too long I’ve been the reader, taking advantage of millions of hours of effort on the part of other writers who have created worlds, stories, imagery that has transported, transfixed and entertained me.
Its time for me to give something back.
